The next generation

Scion was proud to host the IUFRO Division 2 (Physiology and Genetics) conference in March 2016 in their home city of Rotorua, New Zealand.

The conference was sponsored by a number of IUFRO groups:

  • Unit 2.02.20 - Breeding and genetic resources of Southern Pines

  • Unit 2.02.02 - Breeding theory and progeny testing

  • Unit 2.02.05 - Breeding and genetic resources of Pacific Northwest conifers

  • Unit 2.04.06 - Molecular biology of forest trees

Research topics for the conference were:

  • Breeding productive and resilient forests

  • Finding the synergies in genotype, environment and silviculture

  • Genomics and phenomics

In the unique setting of Rotorua, a conference experience to remember was provided. World-renowned as a tourist and conference destination Rotorua is famous for its natural geothermal wonders, beautiful lakes, outdoor pursuits and centre of Maori culture.

The five-day conference included a full day field trip, partner programme and a post-conference tour to the South Island, which finished in Queenstown, another top tourist destination.

The conference was for academics, scientists, molecular and quantitative geneticists and silvicultural scientists interested in genetics, national, regional and international governmental organisations and industry stakeholders, as well as geneticists from sectors outside forestry.

The forest genetics team at Scion thanks you for coming to their Conference.
